Some of Dakota County's inmates, male and female, will be housed in the Ramsey County workhouse.
As part of a contract amendment for boarding inmates agreed to on Tuesday, the cost will be $55 per inmate per day in 2012 and 2013, and $57 per inmate per day in 2014.
Since November 2009, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office has contracted with Ramsey County to board female inmates at the Ramsey County workhouse. The term of the original contract was Nov. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2011.
Boarding female prisoners at Ramsey County has been beneficial to Dakota County, and therefore in January, the sheriff requested authorization to continue the contract with Ramsey County from Jan. 1, 2012, through Dec. 31, 2014.
In his request for the contract amendment, chief deputy Tim Leslie noted reasonable fee structure and proximity of Ramsey County to Dakota County.
For several years Dakota County has boarded inmates at other facilities due to lack of bed space availability in the jail.
