The heat is on.

The trick, of course, is to stay cool mentally as well as physically since we've have several stretches of 90-degree weather dating back to May. Don't let your temperament rise. August-- and more heat -- is just around the corner.

High temperatures and humidity can be dangerous. When the heat index reaches triple digits, the threat to people, pets and livestock is real.

When you're outdoors, remember to take proper precautions even now that the mercury is heading to the more "reasonable" high 80s. Scale back your outdoor activities or at least shift them to a cooler hour than high noon.

Step outside this evening. Who knows, you might catch that neighbor you've seen but haven't spoken with for a while. If you need something to talk about, there's always the weather.
