Giles Erwin Lampman, 79, Red Wing, died Wednesday at his residence. He was born May 15, 1929, in Red Wing, the son of Erwin Giles and Betty (Zahn) Lampman, and graduated in 1947 from Red Wing Central High School. He married Billie Ward in 1948; they later divorced. He married Carol Cross on March 11, 1961, in Nashua, Iowa.

He enlisted in the U S. Army National Guard, serving with Company B, 135th Infantry National Guard, Red Wing. He was called to active duty with the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division, and served from January 1951 through September 1952 in Korea. He retired from the Guard as a captain after serving for 22 years.

He worked for Benke Construction in Rochester, for Red Wing Flour Mills, and for Foley Brothers Construction Co. on the Prairie Island nuclear plant. An avid sports fan, he was active with the American Legion baseball team in his younger days. He was a lifetime member of VFW Burnson-Lillyblad Post 1218 and Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54, and a member of the Red Men Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Red Wing; five children, Rosa (Omer) Oden of Jasper, Texas, Carrick (Linda) of Welch, Michael of Beaumont, Texas, Denice (Brian) Girdeen of Maiden Rock, and April (Steve) Ingalls of Prescott; his stepmother, Virginia Lampman of Red Wing; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Duane (Darlene) of Big Lake, Minn., and Eugene (Marilee) of Red Wing; three sisters, Fayette (Michael) Cochran of Orlando, Fla., Marlene Dunn of Red Wing and Roxanne Johnson of Red Wing; many nieces and nephews including Sheila, Anita and Mike who lived with the family a number of years. He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with an American Legion prayer service at 7, and for one hour before to the service Saturday.
