Two people have been charged with first-degree aggravated robbery for their involvement in a Jan. 24 robbery at Parkway Motel, 3425 Highway 61.

Jeremy Jake Clarin, 33, of Minneapolis, and Amanda Marie Donaldson, 23, of Rochester, were booked into Goodhue County Jail Feb. 19. They were being held as of Friday afternoon.

Clarin is also facing second-degree assault, terroristic threats, interfering with a 911 call and fifth-degree assault charges; Donaldson also faces second-degree assault, terroristic threats, aiding an offender to avoid arrest, interfering with a 911 call and fifth-degree assault charges.

According to court complaints filed Jan. 30 and Feb. 2,

Red Wing Police were dispatched to the area near the Parkway Motel, at 6:02 p.m. after a 911 hang up call.

Police subsequently located Michael Hughes near the hotel, who told police he had been robbed at knifepoint.

According to court complaints, Hughes was waiting in the back seat of a vehicle parked outside of the hotel. Clarin was in the driver's seat and a second man, Curtis Vanzant, got in next to Hughes. Clarin punched Hughes in the mouth while Vanzant demanded $250 from him, the complaint says.

Vanzant then pulled out a knife with a 7- to 8-inch blade and held it against Hughes' neck, the complaint says. Hughes called 911, but Vanzant took the phone from him.

Hughes told police that Vanzant was looking at him with "crazy eyes," was making "stabbing motions" towards him and that and that he thought Vanzant "was going to slit (his) throat."

Hughes was eventually able to get out of the vehicle, but said Vanzant had taken about $230 from him during the incident.

The vehicle that the robbery occurred in was registered to Donaldson, the complaint says, and she was in the front passenger seat during the robbery.

Venzant, 30, and Jennifer Nicole Staten, 32, were arrested last month on similar charges stemming from the robbery.

Clarin pleaded not guilty to all charges Friday. A jury trial has been scheduled to begin April 23. Donaldson's next court appearance is March 9; she has not yet pleaded.
