FARMERS' MARKET -- A new farmers' market will open in Old Cottage Grove at United Church of Christ, 7008 Lamar Ave., just across from the Lamar Ball Fields, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26.
Opening festivities will include music, face painting, Marketeers Club for ages, 3 years and older, and food. Vegetables, herbs, meats, plants, flowers, honey, and baked goods will be available for purchase. Ten percent of the church's proceeds will go to Heifer Project International to help farmers in developing countries purchase livestock to support their families.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL --Everyone is invited to an ice cream social from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Ave., St. Paul Park. Activities will include games for children, a cakewalk, raffles, ice cream, pies, brats, hot dog and hamburgers.

MDEWAKANTON BRAT SALE --The Upper Mississippi Mdewakanton Indian Community is hosting a brat and hotdog sale Friday through Sunday, July 27-29 at Von Hanson's Meats, 9030 Inwood Ave., Cottage Grove. Everyone is invited. Serving hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
VFW STEAK FRY -- Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 is hosting a steak fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 27. Everyone is invited. Returning troopers from the 1/34 who live in the area are invited and will be the guests of the Post. The menu will include steak or shrimp, a baked potato and sweet corn. There will be hamburger or brat baskets for children. Tickets are $9.
ANTIQUE POWER SHOW -- Two tractor pulls and a truck pull will be featured at the 17th annual Little Log House Antique Power Show, Friday through Sunday, July 27-29, at the Little Log House Pioneer Village, 13746 220th St. E., south of Hastings. Other events will include re-enactments, a pancake breakfast, outdoor worship mass, live music, historic buildings and demonstrations. The Little Log House Pioneer Village is located six miles south of Hastings on Highway 61. Admission is $8 for people, 13 years and older.
SATURDAY, JULY 28
CAMPFIRE PROGRAMS -- County-sponsored free campfire programs scheduled this Saturday include a presentation on "Beavers" at Lake Elmo Park Reserve and "Birds" at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park, Denmark Township. A naturalist from Warner Nature Center will explain the role beavers played in shaping the landscape and cultural history of the state. Both programs begin at 7:15 p.m. Parking is $5 per vehicle. EXHIBIT YOUR HOBBY -- Organizers at the Washington County Fair, Aug. 1-5, will accept exhibits -- from photographs to all kinds of crafts and needlework -- for 'friendly' competition from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 30 or 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the fairgrounds, Highway 5, just east of Lake Elmo.
