One driver was airlifted and the other, transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals early Tuesday following a two-vehicle broadside collision on CTH N at 650th Street, east of Beldenville.

The more seriously injured of the two men, Daniel Peterson, 60, of Beldenville, was reported to be in fair condition mid-afternoon Tuesday, according to a Regions Hospital spokeswoman.

Ellsworth Area EMS personnel and firefighters were called out a 5:08 a.m. for the crash, which involved a 2012 Kenworth straight truck driven by William V. Goveronski, 63, from rural Spring Valley and a 1997 Ford Mustang driven by Peterson.

Peterson was flown from the scene to Regions in St. Paul while Goveronski was transported by Ellsworth Area Ambulance to Baldwin Area Medical Center.

Peterson had to be extricated from his car by Ellsworth firefighters while the Mayo medical helicopter was en route to the scene from Eau Claire.

Subsequent investigation indicated Peterson failed to yield right of way from stop sign at the south intersection of 650th Street and he was struck in the passenger side by the eastbound truck, according to Pierce County sheriff's deputy Michael Vodinelich.
