Authorities pulled a body from the Mississippi River Wednesday morning in St. Paul Park.
The body was located in a side channel south of Hidden Harbor Marina by a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources crew conducting research in the area, Washington County sheriff’s Cmdr. Cheri Dexter said. It was reported about 9:15 a.m.
Sheriff’s investigators and deputies used a boat to retrieve the body shortly after 10 a.m. They returned with the body in a tarp and placed it in a body bag on shore before loading it into a waiting hearse.
The body had been in the river for some time and that will slow the identification process, Dexter said.
A St. Park Park police boat and a Washington County airboat were sent out to secure the scene after the body was recovered.
St. Paul Park police Chief Monahan said there are no reports of missing people in St. Paul Park. It would be possible for a body to float downstream from somewhere farther up river, he said.
