The city approved a two-year contract for 2017 and 2018 with LELS, Inc. Local 334 Police Union that will give police officers a 3 percent increase in wages each year.
“It’s a great new agreement for the next two years,” council member Jeff Swenson said.
The union’s former agreement expired at the end of 2016, so city and union staff negotiated benefits for 2017-18 over the past two months.
City Administrator Kevin Walsh said the contract negotiations went smoothly.
Flexible spending accounts for officers will increase to $1,325 in 2018 for those choosing city family medical coverage; $1,100 for single coverage.
Uniform allowance will increase $25 in 2017.
