After 24 years in law enforcement, Tom Radke of Hastings found himself in search of the next chapter. Connections with the owners of the original Red's Savoy Pizza in downtown St. Paul led him to Red Wing.

"I was planning my retirement when this popped up," Radke said. "It's been really refreshing."

In October 2017, Tom and his wife, Candy, bought the Red Wing franchise from original owner Shelly Endres. She opened the restaurant in late 2015.

"It's the same location and same great pizza, but we've changed things up a little," Radke said.

With some new equipment, rearranged buffet set-up and a companywide rebranding in December, Radke said he is settling into his new venture.

"We got some new signage, a new logo and added some new specials to the menu. It was good timing with us being new and growing into the business," he said.

Pizza remains Savoy's speciality, but pastas, wings and warm sandwiches also are available.

Loaded with sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushroom, green peppers and green olives, Radke said the Red's House Special pizza is the most popular local order.

"Hands down, it's the favorite," he said.

Door-to-door service

The most-welcomed change, Radke said, is an expanded delivery radius.

"We widened the deliveries to include Hager City and down to Frontenac and Welch," he said.

The new Savoy team has been involved with some Red Wing sports teams, hosting events for athletes and catering meals for area businesses. Radke credits the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce for being helping welcome his family into the community.

Red's Savoy downtown location has enabled Radke to grow familiar with other local business owners.

"This is a great, little community. We're really happy to be a part of it," Radke said.
