Hastings Family Service will host a city-wide food fight for the month of March with the help of MN FoodShare. All the gifts of money and food from Feb. 26 through April 8 will be matched proportionately by MN FoodShare.
The MN FoodShare March Campaign is an annual food drive engaging communities, civic organizations, schools, businesses, families and individuals to restock food shelves across the state of Minnesota.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the city-wide food fight through projects or activities. A list of ideas can be found on the Hastings Family Service website at www.hastingsfamilyservice.org/city-wide.food-fight.html. Food fight events can be registered on the HFS website using the same link.
"By registering, Hastings Family Service can help promote what you are doing and share your ideas with others," said Amy Sutton, HFS associate director.
Some food fight ideas include holding a food or fund drive with a theme, collect spare change, plan an event, penny wars in a classroom or department, neighborhood pantry clean out and more. Sutton said HFS appreciates everyone getting involved and doing what they are able to do.
"The food and gifts collected during MN FoodShare carry the food shelf into the busy summer season, so anything you can do will make a big difference," she said.
Another way to help is by attending the 23rd annual Hastings Tastings event April 3. Tickets are $35 and are available at the HFS Donation Center, Coborn's, Cub Foods and the Hastings YMCA. Items for the silent auction are welcome and can be dropped off at the HFS Donation Center.
