COTTAGE GROVE -- A standoff Friday evening between SWAT team officers and a wanted fugitive ended with the arrest of the suspect and a woman, according to Cottage Grove Police.

Officers from Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park, Woodbury and Washington County surrounded a residence in the 8000 block of Jergen Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

The suspect ignored commands from a loudspeaker to come out through the front door. Police saw him jump from a second story deck and run through the backyard. Police and a K-9 from Washington County pursued the suspect, who complied with officers' commands and surrendered.

A woman who came out through the front door was arrested after police determined she had an outstanding warrant. 

Both suspects were transported to Washington County Jail.

The male is known to Hennepin County law enforcement and has a history of weapons violations and was a dangerous wanted fugitive with felony warrants for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and felony Terroristic Threats. He now faces new charges for Felony Domestic Assault and Felony Domestic Assault by Strangulation along with his warrants.

The incident began at 7:15 p.m. when a woman approached Cottage Grove paramedics and told them she had been assaulted. Police determined that the woman had been beaten and strangled.

Residents received a code red asking them to shelter in place.
