The Woodbury Rotary Club presented $1,000 scholarships to two local seniors who graduated in June.
Jake Johnson from East Ridge High School qualified for this scholarship by completing humanitarian service activities including serving as a reading tutor for disadvantaged pre-K through second grade children, packing and shipping medical supplies to foreign countries through Global Health Ministries, conducting public relations for the East Ridge Chapter of the National Art Society, and making a commitment to serve on the YMCA's staff for middle school programs this summer.
Johnson will be attending the University of St. Thomas to pursue a degree in journalism with the intention of writing impactful, educational articles for mass publication.
Abbigayle Whichello from Park High School qualified for this scholarship by serving as a gymnastics coach at Park High School, doing ride-alongs with the Cottage Grove Fire Department in an EMS capacity, shadowing a registered nurse at St. John's, and completing EMS training through 916 Century College by the end of high school.
Whichello will continue her education at Century College to become a paramedic and determine in which field of medicine she will pursue further education. Her plan is to become a doctor specializing in a yet to-be-determined field of medicine.
