On Monday, May 25 at 4:57 p.m., the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to an all terrain vehicle accident in Lorain Township, east of the Village of Frederic.

A 9-year-old male and an 11-year-old male had been operating an ATV on a private driveway when the vehicle rolled over.

The Northland Ambulance Services and Northland First Responders, as well as Frederic and Lorain Fire Departments, were all dispatched to the scene. An air ambulance was also requested for a landing at the scene due to the severity of the injuries and the ages of the victims.

The investigation revealed that a Polaris Ranger utility vehicle was being operated by the 9-year-old. He lost control and the vehicle overturned, pinning Samuel Miller, 11, St. Paul, under the machine.

Witnesses freed Samuel and began CPR, but he was ultimately declared deceased by medical personnel at the scene.

The crash and subsequent death remain under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
