Wisconsin's secretary of state apparently got an X-rated surprise when he stopped paying a monthly fee to keep the Internet address for his campaign Web site.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a man in St. Petersburg, Russia, bought Doug La Follette's domain name, and leased it to a firm that sells pornographic movies and photos.

Columnist Dan Bice said La Follette stopped paying the $25 monthly fee a while back.

And he figured he'd start paying it again shortly before he runs for his ninth four-year term next year.

A friend told La Follette a few months ago that his campaign Web address now had hardcore porn. But La Follette said he wasn't sure what to do.

And he's been waiting for the person who bought the address to offer to sell it back to him. Meanwhile, Bice contacted the domain's current owner, Serkov Andrey of Russia.

Andrey said he takes no responsibility for what's on the site now. And he offered to sell the address to Bice for $500.

La Follette now says he'll set up a new campaign Web site with a different address.
