There's fish, but no way to get to them.
So the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is going to supply grant funds to help pay for a fishing pier at Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park.
The lake in the park is almost 25 acres in size, and almost 16 feet deep in places, and a fishing assessment by the DNR showed that there are game fish in it. Access is limited to the lake with fishing blocks, but there is no boat ramp or handicapped accessible fishing pier.
Washington County applied for grants to help build a fishing pier, and the DNR came through with $5,000 from the Fishing in the Neighborhood program and $15,496 from the Trails and Waterways Unit. The county will spend $10,000 on it and the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 will contribute $500.
The DNR will install the pier, and the county will be responsible for installing the concrete footing to the pier, and a handicapped-accessible trail from the parking lot to the fishing pier. The county will also maintain the pier.
