Ambassadors Royal Family fundraiser

The public is invited to meet the Woodbury Ambassadors Royal Family for 2006-07 and thank the 2005-06 Ambassadors for serving the community this past year.

On Sept. 9, a "One Reign Ends and a New Reign Begins" brunch fundraiser will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Outback Steakhouse, 10152 Hudson Road in Woodbur.

The cost is $10 advance sales; $12 at the door with children 5 and under $7.

The menu will include steak, eggs, hashbrowns and a beverage.

A silent auction will also be staged at the event. Attendees are advised to arrive early so they can be eligible for door prizes. Silent auction items will include Minnesota Twins tickets, a gift basket from "from the heart", a $100 savings bond from the First National Bank, Bobble Head Dolls from the Twins, two $25 gift cards from Sportmans Wearhouse, a WCCO polo shirt and gift cards from Outback.

SE YMCA to host kid's garage sale

The Southeast Area YMCA, Woodbury, will host a Children's Garage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It will be held at the Southeast Area YMCA, 2175 Radio Drive.

The event is open to the community and free to attend.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit youth and family programs at the YMCA.

Persons who wish to donate items to the sale are asked to drop off gently used children's items to the YMCA by Thursday, Sept. 14. If you would like to participate in the garage sale, please contact the YMCA.

The following items will not be accepted: shoes, clothing or toys in bad condition, car seats and cribs.

City council seats up for grabs

The mayoral post and three city council seats will be up for re-election this year.

Incumbent Mayor Dave Engstrom has decided to run for re-election and filed his candidacy. Resident Julie Welters has also filed for the mayor position.

Kuchen (Lisbeth) Meyer has filed for re-election of Ward 2 representation. Planning committee commissioner Don Holzmer has filed for the council seat Ward 3. Peg Nolz currently represents Ward 3. Joseph Richter has filed for the Ward 2 council seat.

'Learn to Swim' for teens & adults

Community Education is offering a "Learn to Swim" class for teens and adults in a private environment. If you have never learned to swim or just want to improve your skills this class is for you.

This class is offered on Thursday evenings from 6:45 to 7:25 p.m. at Woodbury Junior High School, Sept. 28 to Nov. 30.

Parents, prepare your children, learning to swim is a survival life skill that everyone needs.

Contract awarded for Ravine park

The county board awarded a contract Aug. 22 to Brauer and Associates, Ltd., to complete changes to the master plan for Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park. The firm will develop a master plan amendment for the park for $38,000.
