Multiple events are planned in August at Woodbury High School to ease the transition back to school.
Each student should have received a summer mailing dealing with orientation dates, a District 833 press release states.
Students who did not receive a letter should call (651) 768-4409 or visit the Woodbury High School website at www.sowashco.k12. mn.us/whs for additional information.
If you have a student who will be driving a car to school, that student will need a parking permit. Woodbury High School requires each student who wishes to purchase a parking permit to attend a 20-minute parking orientation session.
Sessions will be held hourly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m on the following days in the Lecture Hall: seniors only, Tuesday, Aug. 10; all students, Thursday, Aug. 12.
A videotaped copy of the orientation session will be available in the attendance office throughout the school year for any student who wishes to purchase a permit once school has begun or who is unable to attend one of the summer orientation sessions.
A completed parking permit application (including parent signature) and corresponding fee is required before a permit can be issued.
Students have their pictures taken each year, both for the yearbook as well as for identification badges. Lifetouch National Studios will be taking pictures of sophomores and juniors from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12.
Freshmen will have an opportunity to have their picture taken on Friday, Aug. 27 during freshman orientation.
In addition, if any sophomore or junior is unable to take his/her picture on Aug. 12, they may have their picture also taken on Friday, Aug. 27, but should expect a longer wait.
Students should bring their money and order form to school if they wish to purchase school pictures. Seniors do not need to have their picture taken.
A student ID for seniors will be issued using a picture on record from last year. Student IDs for seniors can be picked up on one of the parking days or on the first day of school.
Orientation for the freshman class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27 at the school. Lunch will be provided.
A bus schedule for that day has been mailed to the homes of all ninth graders and is also available on the school website if a student needs transportation to orientation.
Emergency health cards
It is vital that the school has up to date information should an emergency arise. An emergency health card has been mailed home for each student. Student/parents should complete the card and return it to school.
Students may bring their card to any of the orientation sessions, or leave it in the attendance office during the summer. Once school begins, emergency health cards will be collected in the Health Office.
New student orientation
An orientation session is planned for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students new to the area and new to Woodbury High School from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, in the lecture hall.
If your student receives Special Education assistance, the school's Special Education Department will host a "Meet the Case Manager Night" from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the school media center.
For ninth grade students who need to connect with a counselor, the counseling department is scheduling individual student meetings for all incoming ninth-grade students.
All ninth graders and their parents/guardians are encouraged to come in for a 20-minute appointment to meet with their counselor.
Students should schedule their appointment with their specific counselor (assigned by last name) as soon as possible by visiting www.sowashco.k12.mn.us/whs.
Appointment times are also posted outside the counseling office for those who want to make an appointment in person.
Keeping track of assignments is an important part of high school life. Student planners will be available to purchase for $5 during orientation. Planners will also be available in the Guidance Office once school begins.
