The City Council voted Monday night to make Tom Zeuli Hudson's new public works and parks director.
Zeuli is a 30-year employee of the city's Public Works Department, which earlier this year was combined with the Parks Department.
He has been heading the Public Works Department as its lead man since Jim Eulberg left the public works and parks director position at the end of March 2007.
The City Council went into closed session at the end of its regular meeting Monday night to discuss hiring Zeuli to fill the director position, and voted to do so after returning to open session.
Alderpersons Lee Wyland and Alan Burchill were absent from Monday night's meeting. Council President Randy Morrissette II and alderpersons Scot O'Malley, Lori Bernard and Pam Brokaw participated in the decision. Mayor Dean Knudson presided over the meeting.
City Administrator Devin Willi said Tuesday morning that the Finance Committee had unanimously recommended Zeuli for the director position. He'll be paid an annual salary of $67,000, along with the usual health insurance and retirement benefits.
Willi said the city received 22 applicants for the public works and parks director job. Six candidates were interviewed, including Zeuli.
