Rescuers in Milwaukee saved a woman and her two young children from their burning SUV after it crashed. It happened Sunday afternoon on the city's south side.
Police said a 32-year-old woman Tennessee woman and her two-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.
A four-year-old boy needed surgery after being burned over 30 percent of his body. He's at Milwaukee Children's Hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.
A bystander videotaped the rescue.
The tape showed the back half of the SUV engulfed in flames with black smoke. Milwaukee firefighters John and Joel Rechlitz were told about the blaze by one of their wives who saw the crash happen and one of them pulled the boy out after he got trapped in the flames.
Police Lt. Mark Wroblewski sprayed a fire extinguisher into the vehicle. All three personnel were off duty.
Wroblewski said he saw the smoke from his yard and decided to investigate. He said others helped, too, and it showed the true spirit of Milwaukee.
The crash remains under investigation.
