SPRING VALLEY - Stephanie Thompson was both the winning pitcher and got the big hit for No. 4 ranked Spring Valley-Plum City in their 5-3 win over Prescott in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal contest Tuesday evening.
Thompson's two-RBI single in the bottom of the third inning was hard enough to bounce off the shortstop's glove into centerfield.
She also pitched herself out of jam in the top of the sixth inning as Prescott runners on second and third.
Prescott took the lead 3-2 in the second off a throwing error.
SV-PC stays undefeated, now at 20-0 overall while Prescott closes their season with a 9-8 record. The Cardinals will play at defending sectional champion and No. 3 ranked Arcadia Thursday.
Elmwood also played in a regional semifinal Tuesday. The Raiders were at Gelein Field, home of the NCAA Division III national champion UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, to take on Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran.
Elmwood had a 2-0 going into the fourth inning, but couldn not hold it as the Lancers outscored them 6-1 for a 6-3 win.
Back-to-back triples led to a three run fourth inning for Immanuel. They also added two more runs in the sixth.
Immanuel advacne to Thursday's regional final against Chippewa Falls McDonell with a 16-4 record while Elmwood closes at 11-6.
