MAZEPPA -- Former Zumbrota-Mazeppa and University of Minnesota standout Parc Williams was on hand Monday to watch the Z-M boys basketball team run over Dover-Eyota, 57-39 in a nonconference matchup.

Williams presented Z-M senior Tyler McAthie, who broke William's all-time scoring record Friday night, with a ball prior to the game.

"It was a nice deal," said Z-M Coach Tim McAthie, who is Tyler's father. "And we even played well."

Tyler McAthie paced the Cougars Monday with 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Josh Hinsch also played well, pumping in 17 points, ripping down a game-high 12 rebounds and dishing out seven assists.

Matt Thomforde received praise from his coach after his 14-point effort. "He's an unreal shooter. Now we just have to get him to shoot more," Tim McAthie said.

The Cougars held a 43-25 rebounding advantage. Dover-Eyota shot just 30 percent from the floor, while the Cougars shot 44 percent.

"I was happy with the way we moved the ball," Tim McAthie said. "Our intensity was there from the get-go. This was a nice win. Dover runs a tough 1-3-1 matchup zone. But we just rode our good start."

The Cougars darted to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter.

Z-M did not miss a free throw, going 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.
