A 30-year-old Montana man was killed Sunday afternoon after the car he was driving slammed into a pickup truck on Highway 65 in rural St. Croix County, according to a news release.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office said the man, Jason T. Collins of Glendive, Mont., was killed after running a stop sign at 3:28 p.m. on County Highway E, where it struck a southbound Ford F350 pickup on Highway 65 driven by Eric J. Clay of Hudson. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into a nearby field.
Clay, 34, and a 67-year-old passenger, Richard J. Clay of River Falls, were evaluated at the scene. Neither of pickup’s occupants -- who were both wearing seat belts -- was hospitalized.
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office issued a news release late Sunday updating incorrect information placed in a previous release.
The other driver, who was operating a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta headed eastbound on County Highway E, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County medical examiner. He was also seatbelted.
St. Croix County Capt. Jeff Klatt said alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
The crash occurred in Town of Warren, a community between Roberts and New Richmond.
Roberts fire and rescue squads assisted deputies at the scene, along with New Richmond EMS.
The crash, the fifth this year in St. Croix County, remains under investigation.
