A 25-year-old New Richmond man died shortly after midnight Friday, Aug. 23, in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 63 in the Town of Erin Prairie, according to a press release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to the crash just north of 130th Avenue at 12:13 a.m. and a preliminary investigation revealed the car driven by Robert J. Heininger was traveling southbound when he “entered the west ditch, hit a field driveway, went airborne and began to roll multiple times,” according to the release.
Deputies found the vehicle against a tree on its passenger side and noted Heininger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner, the release states, and “alcohol is a possible factor in the cause of the crash.”
United Fire & Rescue and Baldwin EMS assisted on the scene. The crash — the 11th fatality in St. Croix County this year — remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and medical examiner’s office.
