Two teenagers were killed Monday in western Wisconsin after the car they were in collided with a semi-trailer.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office identified the victims as rural Clayton, Wis., 16-year-olds Michael Magnuson and Grace Schradle.

The sheriff's office said the crash, reported at 1:49 p.m. Sept. 16, occurred at Highway 63 and 60th Avenue in the town of Clear Lake.

Deputies said the semi was northbound on Highway 63 when an eastbound sedan driven by Magnuson approached the highway from 60th Avenue. A witness told deputies the sedan slowed down but entered the highway without stopping for a stop sign at the intersection.

The car struck the semi’s trailer, which sent it careening into a ditch, where it rolled onto its roof.

Magnuson and Schradle died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. No information was given about the semi driver's condition, though it was noted that driver was able to pull the rig off to the side of the road after the crash.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and community as we all continue to get through this tragic event," Sheriff Brent Waak said in a news release.
