Two Hastings men were involved in a three-vehicle crash Oct. 14 near Manning Avenue and 70th Street in Cottage Grove. One was injured in what Cottage Grove police called "a serious vehicle crash."

Each man was driving a separate vehicle northbound on Manning Avenue near 70th Street.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. when a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander that was traveling south on Manning Avenue crossed the centerline.

The driver of the first northbound vehicle, Steven Vincent Foote, 53, swerved to avoid a collision with the Outlander. The Outlander sideswiped the left rear of Foote's 2006 International truck. The impact drove the truck into a cornfield but Foote escaped injury.

The Outlander then crashed head-on into a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado that was driven by Michael John Friedrich, 31. Friedrich's vehicle was hauling a trailer. He was transported to Woodwinds with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Outlander, identified by the State Patrol as Melinda Maye Stevenson, 41, of Blaine, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

A portion of Manning Avenue was shut down for several hours while Cottage Grove police and State Patrol accident reconstructionists worked the scene.
