RED WING — The driver of a black sedan found lying on its roof June 29, 2020, near Black Dog Animal Hospital was located nearby and transported to Mayo Clinic Health System Red Wing for unspecified injuries, according to police.

Charges were pending against the driver, according to a news release Tuesday, July 7.

Police were dispatched to the area of 1995 Old West Main St. just before 5 p.m. and found the heavily damaged vehicle in the grass to the east of the animal hospital, according to the news release. Tracks indicated the westbound vehicle went onto the grass and sidewalk on the south side of the street before striking and destroying a fire hydrant. It then continued across Harrison Street where it came to rest on the grass.

An exterior wall of the animal hospital sustained "significant structural damage," the news release states, including damage to a washer, dryer and water line, which resulted in water damage in multiple rooms. Employees were present at the time of the crash but were not injured.

The police department was assisted on the scene by Red Wing Fire Department.
