A Woodbury woman is facing charges for stealing money last year using a fundraising website similar to GoFundMe.

Kaitlyn Marie Hugo, 24, is facing charges of felony theft by swindle.

According to the criminal complaint:

Hugo made a YouCaring page for a 5-year-old boy with Leukemia on behalf of the boy's father, who was facing a significant amount of hospital bills for the treatment.

Funds from the YouCaring page were deposited directly into Hugo's account, and 57 people donated from May to September 2017. The total amount donated was nearly $5,000.

After each deposit in her bank account from the YouCaring donations, Hugo would take one or two hundred dollars cash out.

The boy's father asked Hugo for the donations several times from August to March. She stopped responding to his messages.

He never received any of the donations.

Hugo's initial sentencing hearing was Aug. 6.
