St. Croix County authorities announced Friday a community meeting will be held in advance of a convicted sex offender's release to a residence in Emerald.

Christopher Edward Mikulski, 60, was approved July 8 for supervised release by a Polk County court, where his most recent crime took place. A meeting to inform the community is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Living Word Gospel Chapel, 2746 State Road 64, Forest Township.

"This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public," the news release said.

Mikulski's release is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 21, to a residence at 2253 170th Ave. in Emerald. He will be placed under "intensive supervision" and his whereabouts will be tracked using GPS. Mikulski will be required to register for life with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life.

Mikulski had been convicted of first-degree sexual assault of a child in August 2006. Previous convictions included:

  • Two counts of forced viewing of sexual activity in St. Croix County in 2006
  • Second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Washington County, Minn. in 2002
  • Second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Washington County, Minn. in 2001
  • Indecent exposure in Washington County, Minn. in 1990
