GOODHUE - After a relatively short search, the Goodhue School Board approved the contract of A new superintendent on Nov. 19 during the monthly board meeting.
Dr. Evan Gough, a former assistant principal at Red Wing High School, will lead the Goodhue School District starting in 2019.
Superintendent Mike Redmond accepted a job at the same position at the Shakopee School District. Redmond has been splitting his days between the districts during the transitional time since being hired by that district in October.
Gough grew up in Salem, S.D., and worked in the state as a high school math teacher, the new superintendent said in a phone interview on Nov. 20. Gough became the dean of students at Annandale High School for two years and then was assistant principal at Red Wing High School for three years.
For the last six-and-a-half years, Gough has been superintendent at Blue Earth School District.
Goodhue School Board Chair Ann Buck said after their board meeting that they interviewed many quality candidates, but said his building experience is what stood out to her most.
On Nov. 6, the district passed a two-question, $29 million building referendum. The district will begin design plans next month.
School Board members Tris Danielson and Amber Lohman said Gough's finance experience and quality test scores in the Blue Earth School District stood out to them during the interview process.
Both Danielson and Lohman were on the contract committee that finalized the deal Friday with Gough attending the meeting. Gough was unable to attend the Goodhue School Board meeting on Nov. 19.
Danielson and Lohman said Gough's contract will run until 2021 and will be paid annually at $127,000.
Gough said he is excited to be living in Goodhue County again, saying the job enticed him to be around friends and family again.
Gough also said that he's most excited to get started on the building project when he starts his job in the new year.
