In an announcement to the Cannon Falls School District on Dec. 14, Superintendent Beth Giese said she will be resigning her position to fill the same role at St. Francis Area Schools.

Giese, who has been the district's superintendent since 2011, will tender her resignation on Jan. 14, but her final day won't be until June 30.

"My time in Cannon Falls has been remarkable. This community, the parents, staff and students are more than anyone could ask for in their career," she told the Republican Eagle on Friday.

Giese has been with the district since 2001, where she started as an elementary teacher. Just five years later, she served as the high school assistant principal. Three years later, she became the elementary principal in Cannon Falls.

The St. Francis Area Schools is located in Anoka County and has four times the number of students as the Cannon Falls School District has.

On Dec. 13, the St. Francis Twitter account said the district will enter in negotiations with Giese on July 1.

Giese oversaw a passage of an operating levy, secured grants over $800,000 and improved test scores. During her time as superintendent, Giese was awarded the Kay Jacobs Award in 2015 and named Region 1 Administrator of Excellence in 2017.
