As part of the ACP (Academic and Career Planning) district plan, the Somerset Middle School eighth grade students participated in an Academic and Career Planning Summit on Friday, March 15.
The summit included Somerset graduate career speakers, including Sen. Patty Schachtner and Sheriff Scott Knudson, and others from a variety of careers such as business, engineering, construction, health care and the military. Students toured the WITC-New Richmond campus to learn about the campus and its offerings as they will have other four-year-college tours in high school.
In the afternoon the students worked with Somerset High School principal Shannon Donnelly, assistant principal Trent Probst, school counselor Katie Francis and high school mentors to learn about high school course offerings and high school activities as well as the flex mod schedule.
Following the ACP Summit, Somerset Middle School counselors will offer individual planning conferences for eighth graders and their parents to go over their four-year-plan, academic goal setting and Career Cruising.
Several ACP eighth grade transition events will be held in April, including:
• April 22 - Donnelly and school counselors Katie Francis, Jenna Evenson and Sarah Colling will visit the middle school to give an overview of course offerings/hand out registration sheets
• April 25 - 6-7:30 p.m., eighth grade parent meeting at the high school
• April 29 - registration materials due back to middle school
