Joe Jezierski submitted his resignation May 16 to the Red Wing School District to accept a position with the Southeast Service Cooperative's Regional Center of Excellence in Rochester.

The director of teaching and learning for seven years in Red Wing, Jezierski will now help to create and implement improvement plans to support the achievement in all students throughout southeastern Minnesota.

"This is a big loss for the school district because of Mr. Jezierski's leadership skills, positive relationships with staff and community members, and work with the educational plan," Superintendent Karsten Anderson said in a news release. "He is a trusted colleague and friend, and I will miss him greatly."

Jezierski called leaving the district "bittersweet," excited to start his new position in Rochester.

Jezierski said in the news release that he will miss the district, but it is "proud of the work that has been started and am confident that others will be able to move these initiatives forward in ways that I could not imagine."

Next month the board will review options for replacing Jeziersksi. His last day in the district is approximately Aug. 1.
