Families interested in open enrollment to a school outside of the district where they live can apply for their children Feb.7-25. Wisconsin allows for inter-district open enrollment subject to approval by the non-resident school board.
Applications may be submitted to up to three non-resident school districts. A school board can deny a student's application if space is not available. In recent years some applications have been denied due to high enrollment at the Hudson Middle School. With the school enrollment still above capacity, it is possible that any open enrollment requests for the upcoming year would again be denied.
Parents whose applications are denied may appeal to the Department of Public Instruction within 30 days of the denial.
Students in kindergarten through grade 12 may apply, and applications can be made to virtual charter schools using the same process.
For more information contact the Hudson School District at (715) 377-3700 or go to the district's web site at www.hudson.k12.wi.us. Applications are available online at www2.dpi.state.wi.us/OpenEnrollApp. Online application is recommended but paper forms are available from the district Administrative Service Center, 644 Brakke Drive.
