First quarter building permits were down slightly from last year, but home values are rising.

Between January and March, the city issued 10 permits for new single family houses, as compared to 12 in 2015.

“We are just a little bit down from last year,” said building official Ken Lewis. “but we’re doing pretty good. We’re still growing. My goal is to hit what we did last year or do better.”

The average value of a single-family home in Farmington is $218,420, up from $209,800 during the fourth quarter of 2015. This estimation does not include the value of the lot or any amenities added to the home.

The city uses the occupancy permits to calculate population. An estimated 24 new residents moved to Farmington in the first quarter, bringing the population to 22,646. Since 2012, population has increased by about 800.
