ST. PAUL PARK - St. Paul Park residents can expect a levy increase of 4.7 percent on their taxes this year.
The estimated general fund for 2019 is $3.4 million. The 2018 general fund balance was $3.2 million.
City Administrator Kevin Walsh said at the Sept. 17 City Council meeting that the levy increase will fund:
• Improvements of Heritage Park
• New fire equipment
• New police radios
Residents with an average-priced home can expect to pay about $20 more in city taxes next year.
The city tax rate decreased just short of 1 percent.
City Council approved the preliminary 2019 budget 5-0.
The final levy will be approved at the Dec. 3 meeting. The council can lower the levy before that time, but cannot raise it.
