There is an initial suggestion that rail service between the Twin Cities and the Twin Ports could return after 34 years.

Passengers would be carried between Minneapolis and Duluth-Superior, with four round trips offered each day. Federal grants and local matching funds would pay for the service. One Amtrak official says it could be running in a couple of years.

Avery attorney files motion for post-conviction relief in Manitowoc County

The attorney for convicted killer Steven Avery is asking the court to throw out his conviction and order a new trial.

Avery and his nephew are in prison for the 2005 murder of freelance photographer Teresa Halbach. Attorney Kathleen Zellner says a fraud was perpetrated on the jury in Avery's trial 12 years ago. She argues that remains found at a Manitowoc County gravel pit belonged to Halbach, which would have brought the prosecution's narrative into question. The motion filed Monday also calls for Manitowoc County Circuit Court Judge Angela Sutkiewicz to recuse herself.
