If smiling in the face of a downpour is any indication, New Richmond and its Library Board in partnership with the Board of Education are taking the responsibility to build a new state-of-the-art library very seriously.

Library Board members joined City Council members and members of the New Richmond Board of Education under the protection of a makeshift shelter of umbrellas on the old middle school lawn in the tradition of breaking ground at the site of the new library Monday evening, Sept. 9. By planting a single shovel in the ground, the coalition is actually ahead of its expectation to break ground on the new facility in 2020.

Chicago architectural and design firm Studio GC, has been contracted to design, construct and furnish the library.

It seemed appropriate that a little rain could not deter a process some would say has been in the making for 20 years.
