COTTAGE GROVE -- Starting May 6, motorists should expect delays on Manning Avenue/Highway 95  as crews begin preliminary work for a safety improvement project between 70th St/County Rd 22 and Highway 61.

Motorists will encounter periodic lane closures, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The stretch of road in Cottage Grove and Denmark Township will have alternating lane closures controlled by flaggers from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  Crews will begin their work on the south end of the highway.

The work is part of the larger Highway 95 safety improvement project and will take two construction seasons to finish. This year’s work will include widening shoulders, adding turn lanes and resurfacing the road.

Crews will fully close Highway 95 in the project area to through traffic in early-June to complete the work. However, local access will be maintained for area residents and businesses throughout construction. Construction is expected to be complete by late fall 2020.

The Highway 95 safety improvement work will improve pavement condition, safety and traffic flow and drainage system. To learn more about the project, visit: mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy95safetyimprovements
