River Falls – A sewage leak was reported about 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at a construction site on Cedar and Clark streets. The leak came from a small hole in a temporary bypass pipe used by contractors working on sewer reconstruction at the site. The pump was shut down immediately and the area was thoroughly cleaned.
However, some liquid sewage – estimated at fewer than 50 gallons – did reach the Kinnickinnic River north of the Maple Street Bridge.
“The sewer work is still on hold as we meet with the contractors to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” said Kevin Westhuis, director of River Falls Municipal Utilities. “I want to let the public know that this is an extremely rare occurrence in River Falls and one we take seriously.”
