The accumulation of snow proved too much for the historic Zumbrota Covered Bridge. The roof has collapsed, according to social media post that Mayor Bradley Drenckhahn Sunday morning.
This is the snowiest February on record for southeastern Minnesota, the National Weather Service reports. Another 10 to 12 inches began falling Saturday and apparently contributed to the roof collapse.
The bridge is 150 years old and the last covered bridge in Minnesota. The bridge spans the Zumbro River and is strictly a pedestrian/bicycle bridge today. Motorists can see it from Highway 58.
