St. Croix County authorities said alcohol was involved in a crash that injured a bicyclist Thursday outside Roberts.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office said the bicyclist, 52-year-old Edward Bridges, was struck at about 1 p.m. Nov. 30 in the 1000 block of Highway 12 in the town of Warren. Bridges, a Peoria, Ill., resident, was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he was listed in fair condition Friday morning.

A witness told deputies Bridges was struck by a Ford Focus, the impact from which sent him over the windshield and careening into a ditch. Deputies said Bridges wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The car’s driver allegedly continued on after the collision, but was followed by the witness until deputies arrived. The suspect, 43-year-old Roberts resident Brian Warwick, was stopped on Highway 12 near Alexander Road in the town of Hudson. Warwick was later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury and intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Formal charges are pending.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Roberts Fire and Rescue and St. Croix EMS.
