For the first time in at least seven years, Spring Valley will have a full-time police officer beginning this Saturday, Feb. 2.
New-hire Madison Bryan, a 2017 University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point graduate, was previously working as a Department of Natural Resources game warden at Willow River State Park.
Transitioning to city law enforcement, Bryan said she is most eager to have a presence among the Spring Valley kids.
"I am most excited to work up in the schools," she said. "Part of my hours will be up at the middle-high school and then at the elementary school, so I think I'm excited to... have a positive impact up there."
Originally from Hastings, Bryan has connections to Spring Valley through her boyfriend, a native of the town, along with family in the area.
"I decided I wanted to come back here. Spring Valley was hiring, so I applied," Bryan said.
Police Chief John DuBois said having a full-time officer is a good choice for the community.
"We basically wanted full-time to make it more solid staffing and let the community get to know the officers more," DuBois said. "They can feel more comfortable with us."
