Children ages 12 and younger are invited to ice fish 11 a.m. to noon for free on Feb. 23 at Roger Nelson's Pond on County Road A. All fishing gear and some training will be provided by President of the Ellsworth Funsters Paul Johnson and the rest of his group for this fifth annual fishing tournament.
Nearly $2,000 in prizes will be given out which include full fishing gear packages and a boy's and girl's bike. Those who catch the smallest fish and the largest fish will be given prizes, with lots of other prizes given in between.
Johnson said this annual tournament continues to be a hit with the local kids. Over 100 kids showed up to compete last year, with some catching 15 to 20 fish in the one hour.
They are expecting even more participants this year, Johnson said.
"Almost every kid catches a fish, it's awesome," Johnson said. "It gives an opportunity to give kids an outdoor experience."
Due to unforeseen pond enhancements, local businesses funded the restocking of Roger's Pond.
"I'd like to put in a big thank you to the community, the community businesses, Roger Nelson and everybody that puts in the hard work," Johnson said.
The Ellsworth Funsters have celebrated over 50 years helping area children and families.
