The Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls’ basketball kept rolling with a 61-24 win over Cannon Falls Friday night.

The Cougars had three girls finish with double-digits in points. Makayla Arendt led the Cougars with 16 points. Megan Johnson had 14 points and Ali Hunstad contributed 10 points.

“I really like the way we are playing right now, very unselfish basketball with the ball movement,” said Z-M head coach Andy Bromeling. “We are also really stepping up on the defensive end, doing a great job of contesting shots and rebounding. Really proud of the girls, they just keep continuing to show improvement.”

Makayla Bowen led the Bombers with 16 points.

Z-M improved to 16-5 overall and 8-3 in the Hiawatha Valley League. Cannon Falls fell to 6-15 overall and 1-11 in the HVL.

Grand Meadow 49, Goodhue 42

Goodhue held a 3-point lead in the second half, but had it erased by Grand Meadow as the Wildcats fell 49-42 on Friday.

The teams were tied 20-20 at halftime. The Wildcats had a good second half but couldn’t catch up once Grand Meadow forged ahead.

Lexie Lodermeier led the Wildcats with 18 points and seven rebounds. Torrie Rehder added eight points.

Goodhue fell to 17-5 overall.

Byron 74, Pine Island 65

Pine Island dropped its fourth consecutive game on Friday in a 74-65 loss to Byron.

Alexandra Larson scored a team-high 27 points for the Panthers. Brooke Sinning contributed 12 points.

Pine Island dropped to 8-14 overall and 2-9 in the HVL.

Ali Hunstad led the Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls' basketball team past Goodhue 50-45 on Tuesday.

Hunstad made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points.

While Goodhue struggled to defend Hunstad, the Wildcats also missed some of their free throws. The Wildcats went 8-for-20 at the free-throw line. Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme said he would have liked the team to make the shots at the line as it would have made up the difference in the game.

Joslyn Carlson and Arianna Thomforde each led the Wildcats with 11 points. Torrie Rehder grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Z-M improved to 15-5 overall and 7-3 in the Hiawatha Valley League. Goodhue fell to 17-4 overall and 9-2 in the HVL.

Stewartville 81, Pine Island 49

Stewartville ran away with the game, beating Pine Island 81-49 on Tuesday.

Alexandra Larson had a big game for the Panthers, scoring a team-high 21 points. Noelle Douglas added seven points.

Pine Island fell to 8-13 overall and 2-8 in the HVL.
