After suffering a walk-off loss in the second game of a two-game series with Rice Lake last Thursday, May 16, the Raider baseball team scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning in a non-conference game at Wausau East Friday and held on for a 3-2 victory to snap a three-game losing streak.
Hudson's scheduled doubleheader against Wausau West Saturday was rained out, leaving the Raiders with a record of 5-12 heading into the final two games of the regular season Tuesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 23, against Eau Claire Memorial.
Last Friday at Wausau East, back-to-back singles by Teddy Donna and Jack Erickson in the top of the sixth resulted in the tying and go-ahead runs and Luke Healy and Erickson shut the door on Wausau East in the final two innings for a 3-2 win.
Ryan Rubin singled in a run in the fourth to give Hudson a 1-0 lead but Wausau West went up 2-1 with a two-run homer in the fifth. Tyler Stubbendick was hit by a pitch and Rubin singled to start the sixth before Donna and Erickson delivered RBI singles to give the Raiders the lead.
Erickson and Rubin had three hits each in the win as the Raiders outhit Wausau East 10-3.
Donna worked the first five innings, allowing three hits including a home run, while striking out three and walking two. Healy and Erickson combined for two innings of hitless relief, combining for three strikeouts and one walk.
Hudson started the week by rallying for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score, but Rice Lake scored three times in the top of the eighth to escape with an 8-5 victory Tuesday, May 14, at Grandview Park.
Ben Gilbert tripled in Owen Anderson and scored on a single by Rubin in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 5-5, but Rice Lake cobbled four singles and a fielder's choice into three runs in the top of the eight to take an 8-5 lead. The Raiders went down one-two-three in their final at-bat.
Rubin had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and Donna singled in two runs in the sixth to give Hudson a 3-1 lead but Rice Lake scored four times in the top of the seventh before the Raiders rallied to tie the score.
Rubin finished with three hits and two RBI in the game and Gilbert and Donna had two hits each while Stubbendick added a double.
Anderson started on the mound and allowed five runs, three earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 6 1/3 innings. Erickson was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs on four hits in the final 1 1/3 innings.
In the rematch Thursday at Rice Lake, Gilbert doubled in Healy in the top of the seventh to tie the score but the Warriors scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with 5-4 win.
Gilbert and Anderson had two hits each in the loss and Stubbendick singled in a pair of runs while Sean Barnard took the loss in relief of starter Jonah Becken.
