The Rosemount Irish baseball team's sections run came to an end Monday night, June 3, with a 4-2 loss to No. 8 Park of Cottage Grove. Rosemount-the No. 7 seed-finishes sections with a 2-2 record and the season with an overall record of 8-16. The Irish fell to No. 2 East Ridge on Wednesday, May 29, in the opening round 10-5 which dropped them to the consolation bracket. The next day they beat No. 6 Hastings 11-5 and on Friday, May 31, they blew out No. 4 Apple Valley 19-2. They then advanced to the consolation semifinal against the Wolfpack where their season came to an end.

Loss to East Ridge

Rosemount started out the game on the right foot after junior Lucas Henderson was hit by a pitch, sophomore Jake Ratzloff singled and senior Nick Magnusson scored Henderson on an RBI fielder's choice. However, in the bottom half of the first East Ridge scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Raptors went on to score four runs in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third and they led Rosemount 6-1.

The Irish scored one more run in the top of the fifth when Ratzlaff got on base on a fielder's choice and scored on an RBI single by junior Tyler Stiemer. In the bottom half of the inning, East Ridge scored two runs to extend their lead to 10-2 and looked like they would 10-run Rosemount, but the Irish got out of a bases-loaded jam. Rosemount would then start to make a comeback in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by senior Dawson Nelson and a two-run home run by Ratzlaff, but the rally ended there and they lost 10-5.

Junior Braydon Yost started on the mound for Rosemount but suffered from control issues and was able to go just 1 ⅔ innings where he gave up six runs (five earned) on five walks and four hits with one strikeout. He was relieved by junior Jacob Peterson who pitched 1 ⅓ innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Senior Patrick Hayes threw the last three innings and allowed two runs on four hits and five walks with three strikeouts.

Hastings, Apple Valley, Park

The Irish jumped on the Raiders right away, scoring two runs in the top of the first, three in the second, five in the third and one in the fourth. Junior Logan Schaffer pitched five strong innings for Rosemount and did not give up a run until Hastings scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth. He earned the win after five innings pitched where he gave up four runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout. He was relieved by senior Taylor Berhow-Rivera who threw the final two innings and gave up one run (unearned) one one hit with four walks and a strikeout.

Freshman Easton Richter led the Irish with four hits while five other players had two hits each. Richter also had four RBI while senior Reid Nelson and junior Tyler Stiemre each had two.

Rosemount scored all 19 of their runs against Apple Valley in the first four innings and 10-runned the Eagles in five innings. Junior Jacob Peterson threw the first four innings and gave up just one run on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Sophomore Connor Hartley pitched the last inning and gave up one run (unearned) on two hits with a strikeout.

The Irish scored two runs in the top of the first, one in the second and eight in both the third and fourth. Reid Nelson, Henderson and junior Dylan Princl each had two hits and Ratzlaff led the team with five RBI while Magnusson and Reid Nelson each had three apiece.

Rosemount quickly fell behind Park 4-0 after two innings before the Irish got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, they were able to get one more run but were unable to complete the comeback and fell 4-2. The Irish were able to hammer out nine hits but converted them into just two runs. Richter, Reid Nelson and Magnusson each had two hits and Henderson had their lone RBI. Yost started for Rosemount and pitched two innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on one hit and five walks with a strikeout. He was relieved by Peterson who threw the remaining five innings and allowed just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
