At Wellhaven Senior Living, one of our biggest concerns during the summer is keeping our seniors hydrated. The American Medical Association recommends drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of a water a day to stay hydrated.
Symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, headache, confusion, dry mouth, sunken eyes, rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, reduction to output of fluids (urine, sweat, tears), difficulty with walking and even constipation.
Wellhaven team members are trained to recognize dehydration symptoms and encourage hydration for tenants and guests. Beverages are available 24/7 in our dining area.
Here are some tips to prevent dehydration:
1. Carry a water bottle
2. Drink before you are thirsty
3. Take water breaks
4. Eat fruits and vegetables as they are water-rich
Remember to drink plenty of water; it's important and necessary to stay safe and healthy.
"Our tenants like the addition of limes or slices of fresh fruit in their water," said Beth Ann Schultz, property manager of Wellhaven. "This gets them excited to try different flavors while staying hydrated."
Join us on June 15 at 5 p.m. for a Men's BBQ to honor the men in your life. Seniors and their guests are invited to this free event to celebrate Father's Day.
