Beginning Sept. 13, the library will be hosting a new book club for grade school kids based on the very popular children's series, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket, the pen name of author Daniel Handler. The collection is based on the sad lives of the three Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who are sent to live with their evil relative, Count Olaf, after the suspicious deaths of their parents in a fire.

The series has enjoyed huge international success and has been the basis for a television series, a movie and a video game. The collection of books itself has sold more than 60 million copies and has been translated into 41 languages.

The book club will cover all 13 books of the series, starting with "The Bad Beginning," which was released in September 1999. We will meet on the second Tuesday of each month from September through May from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in room 219 and have a discussion and activity based on that month's book/s. At the final meeting in May we'll wrap up with a viewing of the film based on the series and a book-inspired snack. You can register and get a copy of each month's book at the youth services desk.
