At the May 21 County Board meeting, the four commissioners voted equally for and against making an appointment to fill District 1's seat, pending a special election. Thus no one was appointed and District 1 remains without its own commissioner.
Both sides had valid reasons for their vote. As a candidate for the commissioner appointment, I appreciated hearing both views. While each view is valid, one does carry more weight, and that is the constituents of District 1 deserve to have a voice at the table for the next six to eight months. Not having a District 1 representative is not in the best interest of the entire county.
I urge the board to make an appointment, and it does seem most logical for Scott Safe to continue in that capacity.
