This letter is paid content. I have been a resident of Hastings for 14 years and a teacher at our high school for 22 years, and I am asking Hastings to join me in voting Brian Davis for school board. Everyone who knows Brian as the Y’s Sports Director knows he is passionately dedicated to our youth, so it’s no surprise that he wants to serve on our board. His family is involved in all areas of school—academics, arts, and sports—so Brian’s perspective is broad and balanced, and he is dedicated to helping grow our enrollment. State funding is directly tied to enrollment. Declining enrollment means less funding; less funding means budget cuts. Hastings needs to grow in order to thrive. As a person of color who decided to move to Hastings to raise his family, Brian provides a perspective that is missing and needed on our board. Furthermore, Brian asks questions and listens intently before making decisions, and he will seek collaboration between the board, parents, teachers, and administrators. Brian’s education in political science, economics, and finance as well as his board experience will benefit our district. He has the perspective, passion, voice, and experience we need. Please join me in voting for Brian Davis!
